International Laura van der Heijden heeft haar contract bij Team Esbjerg verlengt. De linkshandige speelster is nog eens twee jaar te bewonderen in het rood van de Deense koploper.
In de Deense media wordt Van der Heijden door haar trainer omschreven als de dieselmotor van de ploeg. “Ze slijt niet. Het is belangrijk om een dergelijke speler in het team te hebben”, vertelt hoofdcoach Lars Frederiksen. Eind februari verlengde teamgenoot Estavana Polman al bij de Deense club.
In 2014 kwam de 25-jarige rechteropbouwer over van Bundesliga-club VfL Oldenburg. In Nederland kwam ze op het hoogste niveau uit voor Venus Nieuwegein en VOC Amsterdam. Vanmiddag komt Van der Heijden met de dames van Oranje bijeen, in aanloop naar het EK-kwalificatieduel van woensdagavond tegen Almere. Om 19:00 wacht Spanje. Een week later reist de ploeg van Henk Groener af naar Metz, waar het de allesbepalende OKT gaat spelen voor een ticket naar Rio.
