Door de zege van poulegenoot Spanje op Oostenrijk zijn de Nederlandse handbaldames geplaatst voor het EK in Zweden. Waar de ploeg van Groener zelf weinig moeite had met handbaldwerg Bulgarije, zette Spanje de enige overgebleven concurrent in de poule opzij (26-33).
Met ieder acht punten uit vijf duels zijn Nederland en Spanje niet meer in te halen door outsider Oostenrijk. Oranje speelt zaterdag het laatste duel van de kwalificatiereeks. In Den Bosch is Oostenrijk de tegenstander. Inzet is de eerste plaats in de poule.
Beschermde status
Met een doelsaldo van +63 zijn Snelder en co koploper in de poule. De Spanjaarden volgen met een iets minder doelsaldo (+35). Beide ploegen wisten één keer van elkaar te winnen. De poulewinnaar geniet tijdens het EK, dat in december van dit jaar gehouden wordt, van een beschermde status.
