De handballers van Apollo Son zijn bezig aan een sterke tweede seizoenshelft in de Hoofdklasse B. De promovendus, die vorig seizoen beslag legde op de regiobeker, staat na de klinkende overwinning op Naov op de vijfde plaats.
Na een goede competitiestart raakte de ploeg uit Son en Breugel in een dip. Zes wedstrijden werden achterelkaar verloren. Vooral op technisch gebied bleek de landelijke klasse een leerproces voor de ploeg van Willy van der Vorst.
Tijd voor frisse wind
Na de jaarwisseling kwam Apollo Son sterk terug. De kampioen van de eerste klasse in het vorige seizoen won de laatste vijf wedstrijden op rij. In eigen huis werd concurrent Naov dit weekend puntloos huiswaarts gestuurd: 39-17. In de spannende Hoofdklasse B, waar de verschillen zeer klein zijn, staat de Brabantse formatie op een keurige vijfde plaats.
Het eerste seizoen op landelijk podium is meteen het laatste seizoen voor leidsman Willy van der Vorst. “Het is tijd voor vernieuwing en een frisse wind”, vertelt de coach. “Ik heb de meeste spelers nu acht jaar getraind en veel successen behaald”. In de laatste duels van de competitie treft Apollo Son de huidige top drie en de hekkensluiter van de Hoofdklasse B.
