AD/PETER LOTMAN – De handballers van Hercules blijven dankzij de 31 – 24 overwinning op Swift Arnhem in de race voor plaats vier in de eredivisie die recht geeft op de kampioenspoule. De ploeg van coach Maarten Roestenburg moest het eerste kwartier nog zoeken naar het juiste ritme. Swift kwam op 2-5 en alleeen de sterk spelende Ramon Meijer zroge ervoor dat Hercules kon bijblijven.
Door een serie fraaie doelpunten van Yannick Boers en Boy Koreneef kon de thuisclub toch met een 16-15 voorsprong rusten. In het tweede bedrijf kwam Hercules door Boers, Koreneef en De Vreede op 21 – 18. In die fase hield de uitblinkende Jeroen van ’t Hart de Hagenaars op de been. Zelfs in de fase met twee spelers op de strafbank kon Swift niet scoren.
In een hectische fase waarin Lommen en De Vreede met rood naar de kant moesten, hield de thuisclub stand. Keeper Van ’t Hart kreeg een publiekswissel en vervanger Robbert Kruijn stopte twee strafworpen. Yannick Boers en Boy Koreneef (beiden 8x) en Ramon Meijer (6) waren de beste schutters. Roestenburg: “Het wordt dringen voor de kampioenspoule”.
