Handbalvereniging Hellas is er in geslaagd Karim Tamim tot het einde van het seizoen aan zich te binden. De 23-jarige Tamim begon ooit zijn loopbaan bij Hellas en vertrok na het behalen van de landstitel in 2008 met succestrainer Peter Portengen naar E&O Emmen. Daarna kwam Tamim, die bekend stond als een van de beste verdedigers van Nederland, uit voor Quintus Kwintsheul en het Limburgse Bevo. Bij de laatste club stopte hij eind vorig seizoen vanwege zijn studie Frans in Nijmegen.
Tamim, die in Scheveningen woont, over zijn verrassende keuze: ,,Ik ben ooit bij Hellas begonnen en wil het daar ook afsluiten. Ik wil ze uit de brand helpen in deze moeilijke periode met blessures. Het is tijdelijk totdat ik volgend jaar definitief naar Nijmegen verhuis. Hopelijk kan ik tot die tijd van waarde zijn voor Hellas.” Tamim is geboren in het Zwitserse Lausanne en kwam uit voor Jong Zwitserland.
Manager Arjan Starrenburg van Hellas: ,,Uiteraard zijn wij heel blij zo’n topspeler te kunnen binnenhalen. Wij kunnen hem als cirkelloper en verdediger goed gebruiken. Mooi ook dat hij bij ons wil afsluiten. We wachten op groen licht van de bond en dan is hij in januari speelgerechtigd.”
