Matthijs Vink zet een punt achter zijn carrière. De ruim 70-voudig international speelt de komende weken zijn laatste twee wedstrijden voor KRAS/Volendam, zijn huidige club. Op 15 mei wordt er in een speciale wedstrijd onder meer afscheid genomen van de Noordwijkerhouter.
De 34-jarige Vink begon zijn carrière bij FIQAS/Aalsmeer waarmee hij in 2001 en 2003 kampioen van Nederland werd. Daarna sloeg Vink zijn vleugels uit naar de Spaanse competitie. Daar zou hij maar liefst negen jaar blijven. Via het talententeam van grootmacht FC Barcelona werd hij full-prof bij onder meer BM Alcobendas. Vink sloot zijn Spaanse avontuur af bij Toledo Balonmano en keerde in 2011 terug naar Nederland om bij KRAS/Volendam als speler/manager aan de slag te gaan. Met Volendam won de fanatieke Vink nog tweemaal het landskampioenschap en schreef hij drie bekers op zijn naam. In het seizoen 2011-2012 was Vink met Volendam ook winnaar van de toenmalige Benelux-liga.
Ook linkerhoek Randy Duin neemt op 15 mei in een speciaal georganiseerde wedstrijd afscheid van de club waar hij sinds kinds af aan al speelt. Ook zal er afscheid genomen worden van de vertrekkende Jorn Smits en coach Mark Schmetz.
