Drie Nederlandse beachteams hebben het het afgelopen weekend geschopt tot de kruisfinales van de European Beach Tour Finals. De Tilburgse dames van Camelot gingen in een Nederlandse troostfinale met eremetaal aan de haal.
In het Griekse Thessaloniki bereikten zowel de dames van Camelot als het Amsterdamse Westsite de halve finales na een uitstekende poulefase. De Nederlandse teams delfden vlak voor de eindstrijd het onderspit. De Tilburgers verloren van regerend kampioen Agenta Girls uit Hongarije (19-11, 21-14). Ook Westsite verloor in straigth sets: het Griekse A.C. Spartacus Goalbet was na een spannende tweede set te sterk.

Zo werd de strijd om het brons een onderonsje tussen de Nederlandse topclubs. Na twee sportieve sets trok Camelot aan het langste eind. De dames van Westsite werden uiteindelijk uitgeroepen tot sportiefste damesploeg van het finaleweekend. Een prijs die bij Beach Handball veel waard is!
Camelot verliest van topfavoriet
Na een verrassend sterke poulefase drong Nederlands Kampioen Camelot door tot de laatste vier. Tegen het Russische Ekaterinodar konden de Brabanders lang meekomen in de eerste set, echter sloeg de tegenstander aan het eind een gaatje (18-23). Ook de tweede werd prooi voor de Russen (12-19), waardoor Camelot zich kon opmaken voor de troostfinale. In de strijd om het brons trof Camelot BHC Zagreb: de titelhouder en favoriet. Getergd versloegen de Kroaten de Nederlandse halve finalist.

Helemaal met lege handen stapte Camelot het vliegtuig niet in. Doelman Robbert Kruijne, in de zaal actief voor eredivisionist Herclues, werd verkozen tot beste keeper van het toernooi. In het weekend van 2 en 3 juli zijn de topbeachteams te bewonderen op het NK in Biddinghuizen.
